Saraswati Puja, also called Basant Panchami, is the time to celebrate and pay homage to goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning, music, and arts. The deity of art, wisdom and culture is worshiped mainly by students across the states and beyond. From schools, colleges to households, people get busy appeasing the Goddess of knowledge.
We at GLS Institute of Design, have been celebrating Saraswati puja since the year of inception. A marble statue of the Goddess was specially commissioned to mark this occasion. Every year, the puja is formally performed by a priest in the presence of our faculty members, students, and the staff. The air is filled with resonating mantras and slokas chanted by the priest as he offers sweets and fruits to the deity.
The dress code for this occasion is traditionally yellow, the colour that represents Basant, the India Spring. After the Puja gets over, the wait starts to get a portion of the revered prasad. The students also offer their prayers to the deity, books, and Design instruments. The occasion is also marked by a cultural program organised by the students.
