Skilling The Sikligars

In August 2022, the GLS Institute of Design had a visit from Dr. P.S. Pasricha, former senior IPS officer, and now head of the Hazur Sahib Gurdwara, Nanded .

One of the main reasons for the visit was to do with improving the lives of the Sikligar community in Nanded. The Sikligars are craftspeople who have traditionally made weapons, now, some still do while others make household items with scrap iron.

Dr. P.S. Pasricha hopes that by upgrading the skill set of the Sikligars and helping them improve their output, their work can be more profitable. He came to GLSID to seek help in this area.

Subsequently, from 6th to 11th September, a team from GLSID, comprising two faculty members and five students, went to Nanded to observe and study the situation on the ground.

The team of faculty and students from GLSID have now begun working on the project.
